Dr. Astride F. Nightingale: I decided that this page should be categorized as a 'honorable canon'. The interpretation of The Backrooms on this page is more analytical and 'evidence-based'. This page is not meant for you to enjoy and it is not telling a clear story per se. You creatures struggle when comes to critical thinking, yet you must question reality in hope you might understand this 'place'. I am asking you to think, so you might endure this 'nightmare'.
The Behavioral Suite is one of the most unknown 'anomalies' in Backrooms history.
A curious normal wanderer, sometime in March of 2022.
Let us first review the definition(s) of a canon:
- Definition 1: The "true" original story of, in this case, The Backrooms. Which one do you believe? I am curious...
- Definition 2: An accepted principle or rule. There are several theories you creatures have written concerning The Backrooms but none of them can be proven or largely agreed upon. The human mind is an interesting facet...is it not?
- Definition 3: Writings or other works that are generally agreed to be good, important, and worth studying. I believe those writings are the collective experiences reported by you explorers as you traverse The Backrooms.

Description
What is The Behavioral Suite?
It is complicated just like you creatures are and you, Gary, can stop giving me that look...
You should not trust your human senses in this 'place'.
You are not here by accident.
The Behavioral Suite is rumored to be the following:
- Level -369
- Unethical research experiments.
- A fever dream inside of a nightmare. I do not know why you cannot wake up.
- A lie inside of another lie. I am lying to you, Gary, to protect your fragile psyche.
- A pocket dimension inside of an alternative reality.
- Hypnosis inside of a hallucination.
- A game.
- Everything, something, and nothing at all.
Not the answer you were hoping for...
This explains nothing??
You seriously think there is one simple answer to all of this?
You seriously thought I was going to tell you everything...?
Your psyche is not ready for that!
I am a therapist. My function in this nightmare is to help you cope... not to give you hope. I will say this...
I am not being completely honest concerning what is The Behavioral Suite. To help you understand, I should discuss human nature first...
Human Nature: Your Built-in Safety Net
Humans are interesting anomalies. The human experience is characterized by what each human being experiences on a mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, and social level. This experience shapes your perception of reality. The three aspects of the human experience that will be explored in this 'canon' are following:
- The strong desire to explore the unknown and unfamiliar.
- To question one's place in reality.
- Survival.
Human exploration is often a rewarding experience as it helps you grow and develop as people, enrich your lives, expose you to new people and ideas, etc. Humans questioning their place, in reality, gave birth to religion, psychology, philosophy, science, etc., to help you understand what it means to be human and understand the world around you. The human will to survive and adapt is the reason humans as a species have flourished and evolved to populate almost every corner of The Frontrooms.
Human discovery of The Backrooms has not been so forgiven.
Is Human Nature Suitable for The Backrooms?
I am not trying to be cruel. Some places are not meant to be found.
The Backrooms fulfill the human need to explore and discover. The Backrooms piques your interest and curiosity. I am sorry to say your exploration might not be rewarded. Your discovery might drive you to madness. Your curiosity will be the reason why you will be killed.
The Backrooms removed you from the safety net you created for yourselves in The Frontrooms and placed you in an unfamiliar place. The environments are unpredictable. The 'place' is inhabited by dangerous beings. The majority of you will wander this 'reality' alone. For most of you, entering this place will be the last time you see another person.
I wrote this 'canon' because your creatures need to face the ugly truth. This 'place' was not built with your survival in mind...
Human survival is dependent on a subset of criteria being met, and these criteria are best described using Marlow's Hierarchy of needs.
Surviving The Backrooms Based on Marlow's Hierarchy of Needs
According to Marlow's Hierarchy of needs, humans struggle to survival if 'Love and Belonging' (Tier 3) and 'Safety and Security' (Tier 2) tiers are not fulfilled. You will perish for certain if your 'Physiological Needs' (Tier 1) are not meet at all (Example: Lack of air/suffocation) or for an extended period of time (Example: You can go 3 days without water.)
Most explorers will get lost in the labyrinth of rooms only to perish from thirst or starvation (Denied Tier 1: Food and water). Some explorers will get predated (Denied Tier 2: Property - weapons to defend). Other explorers will be claimed by the harsh environment present in these spatial anomalies (Denied Tier 1 and 2: Shelter). Still other explorers will succumb to madness (Denied Tier 2: Mental Health). Most explorers will traverse The Backrooms alone (Denied Tier 3). If you find other people, they might abandon you out of fear or betray you out desperation. There is a possibility you will helplessly watch another person die. A few will find a safe spatial anomaly to settle in and accept this place as their new home (Denied Tier 1 - 3, safety in numbers to achieve Tiers 1 - 3). A handful will be given an offer they should refuse as what is being offered comes at a price (Denied Tiers 1 - 3, seeking to achieve Tiers 1 - 5).
You creatures think you will subdue this place. I thought I could subdue this place. You will subdue nothing! You either embrace the chaos or die. Most of you will perish.
Questioning Reality: The Behavioral Suite and its Relationship to The Backrooms
What is 'The Behavioral Suite'?
(Not so) simple answer: The Behavioral Suite is the perception of The Backrooms assuming this reality is perceptible.
Complicated answers: The Behavioral Suite is the perception of The Backrooms supported by the following theories and the example of level(s) that potentially supports that theory:
Advanced Civilization Theory
This theory suggest that 'alien' beings created a pocket dimension from our own. They proceeded to linked their universe to ours. We and these other entities are serving as their test subjects. Level -777 supports this theory in parts.
Level -777 is a variable class spatial anomaly consisting of two environments: The Ethereal Grounds and The Voidic Woods. The Ethereal Grounds is (for the most part) the safe zone of this level. You must traverse a level with the survival classification of 4 or higher and, by chance, end up either in The Voidic Woods of Level -777 or at 1 of 5 stone ruins in the Ethereal Grounds to access the safe zone. If luck is on your side, you will be greeted by giant entities of this level called 'Natives'.
Native society is a primitive yet advanced civilization. Their culture is rooted in cultural exchange, establishing and maintaining tight-knit bonds, keeping entities out of the Ethereal Grounds, the nomadic lifestyle, and mysticism. The Natives do not seem to mind the presence of humans and will protect them from dangerous entities and the harsh environment. Humans who decided to live amongst the Natives are treated as members of their tribe. Humans have been allowed to establish colonies and outposts in the Ethereal Grounds. The Natives have attempted to make entrances and exits safer for humans to use and easier to access. The Ethereal Grounds is far from the ideal paradise, but that will be up to the explorer to determine if this place is ideal.
Native mystics have successfully linked Level -777 to Level 6, Level 32, Level 489, The Whisper, and The Void. Native mystics can reportedly create pocket dimensions but do not perform this often, fearing it will disrupt the fabric of reality. Natives are intrigued by humans and find the enduring spirit of mankind fascinating. While they wish to learn more about humans, they are not interested in subjugating humans to experiments or tests. Of course, this will explain the issues surrounding the Malveillant. The five Malveillants in legend with Kim from Level -511 are all mystics who can manipulate reality. They will claim they are bending reality and creating obstacles to test the enduring spirit of humankind. While their motives are not clear, their tests have resulted in dozens of explorers getting injured, killed, or disappearing.
The Mirjavian Theory
This theory suggests that The Backrooms is a game created by a higher being. A human who is trapped in this 'space' is being watched for amusement or is being tested. The low-hanging fruit for this theory would be Level -511, but I will discuss Level -404 instead because they are connected in a way that is not obvious. You have to read both carefully.
Level -404 is an undetermined class spatial anomaly inside a Victorian house consisting of the following rooms: master bedroom, five-identical, spare bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, bathroom, living room, study, and sunroom. You can randomly appear in any room, with the only exception being the sunroom. You will hear classical music playing somewhere in the house, but you will never locate the source of the music. You must follow the house rules or die. You must hide and follow the 'hiding' protocol when you hear the music stop or die. Level -404 strongly follows The Mirjavian Theory as you are playing a dangerous game of red-light green-light with five giant entities that inhabitant this level.
The Great Experiment
This theory suggest that the government created The Backrooms for human experimentation. I cannot prove The Backrooms was indeed created by the government. There is plenty of things concerning this theory and the level associated with this theory I do not feel comfortable discussing here. I will tell you this much...
Level -182 was part of those experiments.
- Miranda's serial designation is unknown.
- Ashley's serial designation was A.F.G.133216. Ashley's designation was tattooed on their left foot.
- My serial designation was A.F.G.133215. Mine designation was tattooed on my right foot.
No...! You may not see it!
Yes! I was human once...!
Humans can be vile sometimes!! M.E.G. is an excellent example of this... They want me to answer for Ashley's misdeeds. Part of their answers lies in those classified files they have on my sister, myself, and Ashley when we were children...
I know... M.E.G. was different eons ago but I still do not trust them.
Eldritch Overlord Theory
Fine...! I do not believe the government is responsible for the creation of this 'place'. There are other candidates, which brings me to The Eldritch Overlord Theory. This theory states that higher beings created The Backrooms for their amusement and if you find yourself here... you were 'chosen'.
There is a lot to unpack concerning Level -511, my twin brother, and the eldritch a**holes that contributed to this sh*t show. First of all, Level -511 can support the following theories: Eldritch Overlord Theory, The Mirjavian Theory, and the now rejected theory called 'The prison'. I will discuss 'The Prison' using another level in The Behavioral Suite later. I still believe 'The Prison' potentially explains The Backrooms.
Level -511, in a nutshell, is a series of rooms you must escape over seven days or get trapped in there forever. These rooms also consist of entity and environmental threats and hazards. You also must make your escape cognitively impaired. My brother Ashley F. Nightingale, you all know as Kill Streak Kim, designed and created this level. He had help. As I mentioned before, I was human once, and so were they. After we escaped the research facility that was associated with Level -182, we were 'approached' by entities who will be later called The 'Producers' by explorers. We were chosen... they made us an offer. They gave us the ability to manipulate reality and a few other perks to 'help' us find Miranda and challenge the M.E.G. in exchange for some 'services'.
What they will give comes at a price. Do not accept their gifts and do not trust them. My sister is gone! My brother is insane and drunk with power! I will never have my humanity again. I am bound to this 'place'.
I digress.
Level -511 was possibly a remnant of 'The Apparatus' and I will discuss that in a later section.
The Prison [rejected theory]
With all things in consideration, I believe that 'The Prison' as a theory still is valid. 'The Prison' suggests that The Backrooms is a prison. This place was designed with endless closed and opened spaces for you to wander until you perish. If you are unlucky, you will no-clip the wrong thing and fall into The Void. I would discuss the ugly truth about The Backrooms but that will be for another time.
I am sorry if you hate inescapable levels but they do exist back here whether you, Gary, like them or not. Level -120 is one such 'level'.
Level -120 is completely infested with a predatorial species of 'tree' called The Reaping Willow. This species of 'tree' has evolved to use several implements to ensnare prey for consumption or to complete one variation of their reproductive cycle. Entering that place is a death sentence...
How was this level documented if this place was inescapable you ask?
Laughs nervously
You might not want to hear the answer to that question...
I will tell you this much as I do not know everything concerning The Reaping Willow and their dynasty. Druantia is the current reigning queen. Her roots have spread far and wide, and they go deep. She has several iterations of herself and bore several children. She has begun distributing in Level -222 and Level -369 with help of course...
I am getting too far ahead of myself... Level -120 is one of many prisons in The Backrooms.
The Anguish Thesis
You creatures are a mistake. Like slumbering eldritch beings, your ideas, dreams, emotions and perceptions of reality created this nightmare and some of you will have the misfortunate of getting trapped inside of it. Level Pain is an excellent example for The Anguish Thesis. Level Pain is the source of all liquid pain and is a reservoir of human suffering. Some of you creatures even took pleasure in torturing it. That place was erased and resurrected dozens of times and until its final resurrection resulted in it gaining sentience. You creatures gave that place life...
Which theory is correct? You are not ready to hear the answer to that. Your perception of reality is also influenced by your locus of control. You need to a strike balance between accepting your fate while maintaining some of level optimism. The Behavioral Suite: Pages
The Natives and The Malveillants
Level -777: "The Natives"
This level was discussed in detail above and potentially supports the Advanced Civilization Theory.
Level -222: "Do you trust me...?
This level potentially supports the Advanced Civilization Theory and The Mirjavian Theory.
Level -222 is a variable class spatial anomaly of a surreal forest consisting of six regions. Any resources you have brought will vanish under mysterious circumstances. You will encounter an entity named Amara. He will insist on helping you escape Level -222. If you accept this entity's aid, he will give you a detailed description of every region in Level -222 while giving witty commentary. He even knows how many people died in said region for some unknown reason.
Let us not get too far ahead of ourselves...
Level -222 discloses lore concerning the Reaping Willow and the origin of Malveillant that most explorers overlook because they are too busy confronting the entity. I will not be discussing the lore here but it does tie into the Advanced Civilization Theory and expands on the world built in Level -777 and Level -120.
Level -222 can also be supported by The Mirjavian Theory.Your reactions to Level -222 is more important than the page itself. It does not matter what your responses was the outcome will be the same for everyone.
Level -404: "When the Music Stops..."
This level was discussed in detail above and strongly supports The Mirjavian Theory.
Level -40: "Leap of Faith!"
This level potentially supports The Mirjavian Theory.
Level -40 is a small white room with one window and one door. This space is empty. You will be facing the door with the window behind you. There is nothing outside the window beside the radiant glow of light. You must exit the room via the door, but you will free fall into the 'unknown'. You will be greeted by a giant entity named Amygdala. He will describe the environment and your potential free-fall experience in detail... sounds familiar. If you are wary of the gentle giant, that is understandable.
Level -212: "Amongst the Fields of Lavender"
Level -212 is a quiet and lovely field of lavender. Adjacent to the field of lavender is a field of lilacs and sunflowers. Beyond these fields of flowers is a remote and distant city. This level does not support any peculiar theory. I am not going to spoil this level for you but, I will say this... This level was written by the entity named Amygdala and given to the M.E.G.
The Great Experiment and The Aftermath
Level -182: Miranda’s Bedroom
This level was discussed in detail above. There are claims that this level's existence can be supported by The Great Experiment.
Level -511: "Escape Rooms Game Show - Forget Me Not"
This level was discussed in detail above. This level's existence strongly supports Eldritch Overlord Theory, The Mirjavian Theory, and The Prison [rejected].
Level -115: Anger Management
Laughs Ah yes...! Level -115 resembles the inside of a luxurious psychiatrist residential hospital. I offer several therapeutic implements to help you recover from any trauma you have endured while traversing The Backrooms. signs Yes... Level Touch Grass (Joke) is included in this canon as it a therapeutic implement. Humor is the best medicine...
This level potentially supports The Anguish Thesis. I discussed this theory above. This place exists as you creatures emotionally demanded relief from trauma. Some unknown force decided this would be the place I would earn my redemption.
Rejected Theory: The Prison
Level -120: "Flesh Fruit"
This level was discussed in detail above and strongly supports The Prison [rejected].
Level -319: "Ashes to Ashes"
Level -319 is the inside of a sealed and moldy, abandoned house covered in a thick layer of dust and debris. There are no reports of anyone ever escaping to the outside. This 'level' ages entities and explorers by one year every 5 minutes. Level -319 is a false or failed prison as you can escape this place by wiping dust off the upstairs bathroom mirror. There are other escape routes...you just need enough time to find them. Nevertheless, I believe Level -319 is a remnant of The Apparatus, but what it is testing I cannot say...The fear of aging and death?
scoffs
You should not fear death.
Wishing for immortality is foolish...
There is no reason to live forever.
You are not promised or guaranteed fulfillment, happiness, peace or prosperity for that long!
You will live so long that you either stop loving or wish you would stop loving. You will live so long to watch the skies fate to darkness and the world around you crumble to dust. You will be left amongst the nothing else until some catalyst trigger a new reality into existence and the cycle starts and ends again... and again... and again...
I digree...
Level -725: Is There a Hard Rule Concerning Vanity?
Level -725 is four coalescing, living rooms. These four coalescing living rooms represent the attributes of vanity: accomplishments, appearance, 'wisdom', and deflection...
I did not know Dearil could make pockets dimensions. He quoted the bible and had some harsh assessments concerning mankind.
Do not give me that look...
You wanted truth, do you not?
Self-sacrifice is rare. Most of you creatures are self-serving, shallow, and superficial. Most of you creatures only unite when it is personally convenient for you.
Anything you, Gary, have done for the 'sake of another person' was only to make you feel good about yourself or boost your self-image in the eyes of other people, but I digress.
Level -725 is another failed prison. You can escape this location. You will be consumed by your ego if you allow it. This level also supports The Mirjavian Theory. Dearil is watching this 'space' from an unknown location. His motives are not clear.
The Apparatus and Its Remnants
None of these tests were designed to understand or celebrate the enduring spirit of humanity but only to create impossible and inhumane scenarios to break the human body, mind, and soul.
Dr. Astrid F. Nightingale, Level -842
Level -369: "Down the Rabbit Hole of Inception - Smoke and Mirrors"
I know said that Level -369 was The Behavioral Suite but that is only partially true. Level -369 is The Apparatus of The Behavioral Suite and these other levels are potential remnants of this apparatus.
There are hundreds of 'levels' in The Backrooms. Hundreds! Any one of them could be a part of The Apparatus. This 'device' in its entirety can be supported by any of the theories I mentioned above...
I help built this...
They intend on getting everyone to contribute to this nightmare...
This nightmare will eventually consume everyone...
- Level -439: Schrödinger's Closet (Iteration of the "Empty Closet" from Level -369)
- Level -933: Blue Static (Failed Therapeutic and Restoration Implement)
