Description

The Caretaker looks like a man in his 60s or 70s. He sometimes appears to be wearing a brown coat, black pants, brown leather shoes and a black beret, along with a pair of glasses. He is sometimes seen smoking an almost burnout cigar. In the pockets of his coat, he carries various objects, such as caramel candies, a box of mints, a pocket watch, a pair of woolen gloves, and a lens cloth. Rarely, you can see him carry a box of matches, a flute, and 3 photographs of what appear to be his family and/or friends. Witnesses have said that he has been seen at various levels of the backrooms. They have also said that he himself has helped them get out of dangerous places, taking them to his house located on Level -900. He appears to have made various music tracks on a disease that can happen to anybody at anytime. The disease in question is Dementia. His music can either bring signs of nostalgia, regret, sorrow, or fear. Some say he is an exact copy of The Caretaker from the real world, as this version manifested after the real one passed away.

His most common track to play in any level is A-1, It's Just a Burning Memory, said by wanderers to be often times relaxing, or, sometimes saddening, almost as if it was the perfect song to use if the world were to end right now. The Caretaker says he know how to cure dementia if it were implied onto any wanderer who somehow gets the disease. He does the curing process in the form of his mints. He will offer a mint to the infected patient, and might shove it down their throat depending on how many stages the target has gone through. The infected will then begin to have a hazy memory of where they are exactly for 5 hours. After the time passes, the target will start to remember who they are, what their purpose in this world was, and most importantly, remember their past. It is currently unknown how these mints work exactly, even asking the entity will wield no results.

In several interviews, he has said that he is actually about old as time itself and that during all those years of life he has taken care of various people, including lost explorers, guiding them to safer places. He has seen too many events occur, he has seen several groups being born before his very eyes and falling, several people entering and leaving the backrooms, he has seen even war itself outbreak in the stupidest ways possible. He set his goal to help the innocent, no matter what obstacles are blocking his path. A Smiler appears? No worries, he can use the matches to distract it. A Skin Stealer blocks the way? No problem. He can burn the creature away. Apparently, he is the owner of the great hotel in Level -489, since his voice and the voice of the announcer are very identical.

This is the only photo we have of him:

When he sees a seriously injured person, either by an attack by a hostile group or entity, he will take the person to his house located at Level -900 and put them in a room specially made for the injured person. The room can vary depending on how fatal the injury was. If it was extremely fatal, the room would look similar to a hospital room, filled with Facelings taking the roll of a doctors. If the injury was small, the room would look like the one of the wanderers childhood. He will treat everyone the same, regardless of age. He will, however, not take treat any people who have done actions that bound unforgiving consequences, such as murder, theft, tax fraud, war, [REDACTED], and torture onto other people. The entity will place these types of people who committed such actions into a replica of the Brazen Bull, burning them alive. He quotes "All men who committed violent actions will have no choice but to sell their life to the devil. It's a done deal I seek to pleasure his work and prosperity he brings to the people. This curse is a precursor on what humanity could face, destructive, and reckless. No matter how much fear you feel, it will all be over soon."
