Name The Cringe-Rooms
Type Psychological
Prognosis ~%4 fatality rate
Levels Unknown

The Cringe-Rooms is, as of now, an unverified anomalous psychological phenomena within the Backrooms. It can occur any time, but usually occurs around strange worms. At surface level, the Cringe-Rooms seems harmless, albeit embarrassing, it has the potential to cause mental decay, leading one very susceptible to manipulation or psychological trauma. It is likely the Cringe-Rooms are a combination of environmental stress and entity psychological attacks,

Description

The Cringe-Rooms is a space the wanderer perceives to no-clip into. To other wanderers, the wanderer affected will stand still, seemingly trapped in a catatonic state. It is described as similar to Level 0, except with material that causes feelings of social discomfort and disgust, coequally known as cringe. It is unknown, but possible religion impacts said experiences. When in said space, the affected wanderer at first may see graffiti on the wall. Common writings/pictures include OwO, forknife, and drawings of phallic symbols. After an unknown amount of time, entities appear that the wanderer can see. These are described as looking like hot dogs, braughts, or corn dogs. However, those unaffected by the Cringe-Rooms may see worm-like creatures near said wanderer. These may be related to memory worms, due to their psychological abilities, but are much smaller, around .72 meters (2.4 feet) long, with a diameter of 60.5 centimeters (~1.2 feet).

The worms are then seen attempting to eat the wanderer, although the worms may fail at said task. If the worms are driven away, the effect persists for around a few hours. However, worms are not always visibly present when one is suffering from Cringe-Rooms, nor does driving the worms away guarantee ending the effect. If the Wanderer starts mumbling while in a Catatonic state, this tends to have a poor prognosis without intervention. The affected wanderer may then suffer a severe tonic-conic seizure that lasts for 30 minutes to an hour.

Very rarely, wanderers may spontaneously no clip away, where they end up is unknown.

Prevention

Restful sleep is the first line of defense against said phenomena. Staying with a community also helps one to maintain general sanity, along with preventing said anomaly. Furthermore, worm or snake like creatures should be avoided.

Treatment

Treatment should begin promptly if this condition is suspected, as the primary treatment is benign. Treatment within 10 minutes of effect has been shown to work 100% of the time as of now. Almond water can be used to break the wanderer from said trance. But if the wanderer is suffering from a seizure induced by said condition, special care is required. Said care is often outside resources available to those in the Backrooms, causing death. Furthermore, one should move the impacted wanderer away from the worms, or neutralize the worms.

Differential Diagnosis

Worms are a primary, but not guaranteed way to rule out other conditions. Other conditions that may have similar symptoms may include, but is not limited to:

  • Sleep Deprivation
  • Psychosis
  • Drug/alcohol use
  • Schizophrenia

Knowledge of medical history is especially important to wanders in the Backrooms.
