Entity First Contact Report

Source: Base Gamma

Filed By: Dr. Samuel Striker

During an entity attack our guards were following standard procedure and keeping all hostiles a minimum of ten meters from Site Gamma. It was routine with no surprises until about ten minutes into the attack. Guards observed a tall man in medieval armor wielding a long-sword approaching down a hallway. He was fighting entities as he went, but even more baffling it was reported to me that entity attacks were phasing through him as if the man was incorporeal. Despite this ability, this Ghost as we’ve taken to calling him, was quite hurt and trying to reach the safety of our base. Luckily we are well versed in picking up wanderers, and we shuttled him through the gate the same way we would anyone else. I realize that this may be a breach in conduct. Letting beings with anomalous properties into our base is far from regular practice, but if this becomes an issue I stand by the fact that we do not turn away wanderers or people in need.

Upon entry The Ghost seemed grateful, but guarded. He rejected all attempts to treat his wounds and patiently waited for the attack to be repelled, sword still at the ready. Once the entities were killed or driven away he finally turned his attention to us. The Ghost didn’t seem to understand our words, but after some crude sign language and some coaxing it was shuttled into the base’s medical facilities where I was stationed. I was expecting wounded men, I was not expecting this.

Standing at around 200cm was a literal neanderthal. Big forehead, slightly enlarged nose, the whole lot. At first glance his condition seemed critical with massive claw and bite marks all over his body. His armor had held up considerably well, but there were still a fair number of dents and cracks. Furthermore he was covered in all manner of liquids including black ichor, skin-stealer blood, and of course his own blood. I had to demonstrate how I was going to help him using one of the injured guards, but the neanderthal eventually accepted treatment.

After his body was disinfected and his wounds bandaged he seemed a lot calmer, so I set about trying to talk with him. I’m the site linguist as well so I was no stranger to figuring out what place in the world a person had come from. I was surprised to find that The Ghost spoke french. It was broken and with a terrible accent, but he spoke it well enough for us to have a conversation. Do note that some of this is up for interpretation and I’ve had to fill in some gaps. Again, I’m working with broken French here.

His story was the same as all of us. One day he was getting ready to hunt a ‘great beast’ for his tribe and noclipped into the backrooms. From his description, however, it doesn’t seem like he ended up in level 0, or even level 1-2 to start with. Instead the neanderthal described a forest of golden trees that moved like people with land symmetry that didn’t make sense. From then on he went exploring the backrooms, eventually resolving to find a way back to his tribe from the nonsensical hell he’d been abruptly placed in. Just like the rest of us attempting to do the same, that didn’t work out.

Interestingly enough we’re not the first organized group of humans he’s come across. If my understanding of his words were correct then he was once saved by a roving band of medieval knights and taken back to their castle. Castle in this sense was a floor of castle-like infrastructure mostly consisting of twisting and turning stone hallways lit by torches. That’s where he learned French, and where he learned to survive the backrooms. Apparently that phasing technique was invented by said knights. Upon further study I’ve concluded that it’s a form of noclipping but for combat. Apparently it’s done the same way you clip through a wall or floor, but against an enemy attack. You have to match their momentum and angle precisely, and therefore it is very very hard to pull off. I can’t even imagine what it took to learn such an ability. Failing to noclip in a fight could have dire consequences, not to mention the act of noclipping itself is dangerous to begin with. It was even explained to me that our Ghost hadn’t chosen to leave the knights, but rather accidentally clipped through the floor while fighting and got lost again. A few of our guards have already started to try and replicate this ‘noclip dodge’ but to no avail. They have also been discouraged from attempting it due to the associated risks, but I’m not a micro-manager. Just hope they have the sense not to get themselves into trouble they can’t get out of.

After this I noticed Ghost was a bit pale, so I told him that he was safe and to get some rest. He’s been given almond water and freshly made bread, and now sleeps as I write this. There are many many more things I wish to ask him when he wakes. I can see he stares at the more advanced technology we have with interest, especially our weapons. It may be that we can teach him a great deal as well. Then there’s the matter of his time period. We’ve experienced time leeway before. One person from World War 2 pops up and two hours later we get a philanthropist from 2026, but a neanderthal? We’ve never had someone from so far back. Makes me wonder if we’re going to find a woolly mammoth somewhere down the line. In any case I’ll start telling our teams to look out for medieval knights and dinosaurs. It’s wishful thinking, but I like to think Charlemagne is down there somewhere carving up facelings.

This ends my current report. Given the situation, I believe I’ll have an update soon.

Note: Let it be known that I’m not sure if this counts as an ‘entity’ or not, but I am very sure it is a form of first contact. I would recommend we come up with procedures and forms for the sort of incident that took place today in case this isn’t the last time we encounter pe-historic people.
