The Grayout
Survival Difficulty: Class 4
- Unsafe
- Unsecure
- Medium Entity Count
The Grayout is an enigmatic sub-level located within the Backrooms.
Description
The Grayout is a sub-level between The Whiteout and The Blackout only accessible through a broken wall or bright light. Unlike the levels it is between, The Grayout is an infinite construction site indoors. There are no windows, but there are gaps that lead to a void. In this level, you can only see in black and white without special visual equipment. Thus, sanity depletes substantially quickly if not aided. The dangers of this level are not known to mostly be of entities, despite there being a medium amount. There are also holes in the floor that lead you to another layer. Each and every layer are the same aside from layout. Sometimes the holes can be obstructed partially or fully by the walls. No light sources have been reported, even though there is usually bright lighting. It also doesn't have a widespread solid color, unlike the Whiteout and Blackout. Occasionally, tables can be found, with various items. These can range from helpful items like Almond Water, to harmful ones like Liquid Pain, to basically random things like USB drivers that do nothing.
Entities
There is only one native entity, being The Child. The Child is known to have a connection to both The Maker and The Bride, of which he refers to as his "parents". The Child resembles a boy around the age of 7. His clothes change between encounters to something different most of the time, though encounters with an already used outfit can occur. This also goes with his haircut, though hair color stays the same every time. The Child appears to be entirely grayscale, even if he were to be sent to levels in color unlike The Grayout. Every other entity aside him are your usual ones. Smilers are rare due to the common brightness of the level, but if a location is apparently dark enough, they can manifest.
Colonies and Outposts
Though definitely possible, no colonies and outposts have been made.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
So far, the only method of entry is through a broken wall in The Whiteout, or by a bright light in The Blackout.
Exits
One way to exit is noclipping through walls; white ones lead to The Whiteout, and black ones lead to The Blackout. Any wall that is in color and can be seen as so without equipment will lead to Level 10.
Opening a door labelled "TAKE YOUR PICK" will lead to Level -1.
