Description[]
The Halloween Demon, also known as the Pumpkin King, is a mysterious entity that lurks within Halloween-themed levels during the month of October. It is most commonly encountered during Halloween, wherein the entity may also roam most of the rest of the Backrooms at lesser frequency and even otherwise entity-free Halloween-based levels. Due to this, it is highly recommended to always avoid entity-occupied Halloween-themed levels, and to stay out of Halloween-themed levels entirely when it is Halloween.
The Halloween Demon is considered to be one of the most dangerous and life-threatening entities in the Backrooms entirely; wanderers are frequently killed by the entity and only a minuscule number of wanderers are known to have escaped it. It is partly due to this that the entity remains as mysterious as it is, and it is highly unlikely that any more significant information will be found out about it in the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, if one sees or hears the Halloween Demon approaching, it is suggested to try and noclip out of the level or, failing that, simply run away as fast as one can.
Interestingly, Jack-O-Lanterns have been observed to treat the Halloween Demon reverently when encountering the entity, suggesting that the Halloween Demon somehow has a high-ranking status among Jack-O-Lanterns. Additionally, one individual who happened to speak in Amharic and overheard a Jack-O-Lantern seemingly communicating with the Halloween Demon claimed that he overheard the former referring to the latter as the "Pumpkin King". It is possible that Jack-O-Lanterns consider the Halloween Demon to be their god, as this would suggest that the rituals that Jack-O-Lanterns sometimes participate in are, in fact, rituals dedicated to their 'god'.
Behaviour[]
The Halloween Demon's travel patterns have so far proven extremely difficult to ascertain or predict due to the high danger posed by attempting to follow it. Those who have tried to follow it have never gone unnoticed by the entity — or survived — for long, and so the only ways to deduce where the Halloween Demon has previously been have been from eyewitness accounts, corpses with wounds pertaining to those typically inflicted by the entity, and certain structural damage. Nevertheless, the Halloween Demon often ventures to locations with wanderers in them, possibly aided by some unknown sense that allows it to somehow detect wanderers even if they are far away from it; this would also apply across entire levels. However, it is ultimately unknown whether the Halloween Demon truly possesses this sense or not, and there is likely no way to know for sure.
In most cases when it locates a wanderer or group of wanderers, the Halloween Demon will immediately advance to said wanderers' location and attack and kill them via either blunt force trauma (e.g. smashing, kicking, etc.), slashing with the tips of its fingers, or picking them up and throwing them for a great distance or straight into solid objects such as walls and roofs. Due to its large size and speed, the Halloween Demon is believed to typically succeed in killing wanderers mere seconds after their initial encounter. However, the entity may occasionally choose to play with its prey before going in for the kill, although this is known to not increase the victim's chances of survival, as the Halloween Demon can easily keep up with a fleeing wanderer.
Biology[]
The Halloween Demon is a giant, towering, skeletal figure roughly in the shape of a human skeleton, albeit significantly larger. While its exact height is unknown, it is known to be around 10 meters tall. Instead of bones, the entity is made of a tough, vine-like material that intertwines throughout its structure to form its skeletal shape. Additionally, the Halloween Demon's head has the appearance and texture of that of a pumpkin, deformed and warped into the shape of a skull. While this 'skull' lacks nasal cavities, its mouth and eye sockets glow from within with a fiery glow, as do the gaps between the entity's 'ribs', leading many to believe that the Halloween Demon hosts a bright fire inside its body, much like a jack-o'-lantern.
It is unknown how the Halloween Demon is animate, given its unnatural body structure and the high improbability of said body structure hosting any kind of internal organs whatsoever, though some have theorized that the entity's internal flame is somehow the cause. Moreover, it has also been theorized that the Halloween Demon was previously a Jack-O-Lantern that somehow mutated or got altered into what it is now, with an extention of this theory being that said Jack-O-Lantern somehow fused with a human skeleton and thus grew in power.
In addition, the Halloween Demon also possesses the unique ability to create new Jack-O-Lantern entities seemingly whenever it chooses. It does this by sending a flame from one of its hands or its mouth into a non-lit pumpkin, igniting it and thus transforming it into a Jack-O-Lantern. If the pumpkin in question is not carved, the flame will instead burn right through it and into its center, hollowing out the pumpkin and leaving a carved 'face' typical of that of a Jack-O-Lantern in the process. It has been theorized that the Halloween Demon is the reason that Jack-O-Lanterns came into existence in the first place. Moreover, it has also been theorized that Jack Umbra was, in fact, also transformed due to the Halloween Demon igniting his pumpkin head with its flame.
