Description

One of the first places you will see when you enter The Interstate.

The Interstate is an empty highway resembling a maze of roads. Around you is a thick fog that blocks vision from 10m away and beyond. Its function is similar of that to The Hub, except that you can enter every level (randomly, however). Almost every entity present in The Backrooms can be located in The Interstate. This is because entities can use it to traverse to the other levels beyond Level 8. This is the reason that The Interstate's Survival Difficulty is so high. The roads follow non-euclidian paths, meaning that some roads can clip through others. This makes the level a tangled mess to navigate, and therefore, and even harder to survive in.

Where you start will depend on how you entered. If you entered via noclipping, you will end up at the end of a cul-de-sac, with one road stretching on for around five miles (see image). After that, you get a fork in the road, and then the maze begins. You can also get here by turning left on the only fork in the road in Level 2048. Doing so will take you straight to the maze part, which can stretch on for around three-hundred million square miles.

Entities

Almost all normal entities can be spotted here (Hounds, Dullers, Facelings, etc.)

However, there is one entity that dwells in this level and doesn't appear anywhere else...

The Traffic Conductor

These lanky nine-foot-tall humanoids can be seen everywhere in The Interstate. They appear pitch black with two small white dots for eyes, and wander around aimlessely. They are docile, unless provoked by you or an entity walking off of the road or jumping to a different road. If a wanderer or entity is within 5m of a Traffic Conductor and they walk off the road, the Traffic Conductor will immediately lunge at them and kill them instantly. Always bring a flashlight to prevent death.

Colonies and Outposts

Due to the extreme hostility of this level and only a random chance at getting a level you want, no real colonies live here. However, a couple MIBSTA resupply factories can be spotted around. MIBSTA uses The Interstate for deliveries, due to its potential to get you to a different level extremely quickly (They do have to wait for the exits to refresh every thirty seconds so they can get to the desired level).

If you wish to make a colony here, it is advised against strongly, though you do have the potential to do so.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • Noclip on an escalator in Level 4
  • Take a left when encountering the fork in the road on Level 2048

A picture taken by one of the ten wanderers to ever survive The Interstate. A different wanderer kindly added tips to finding an exit.

Exits

  • When you see one road stretching on to infinity with a sign next to it, you've found one of thousands of exits (see image).
  • Noclipping doesn't work in The Interstate (for an unknown reason), so dying to an entity is the only other way out.
