The Serpent, alternatively known as “The Parasite”, is a hostile Class VII Ontokinetic Entity responsible for the creation of Smilers and Anethikas. Due to the extreme danger it presents, no direct contact between it and the M.E.G has happened as of yet.
Despite this, numerous documents by parties unaffiliated with the M.E.G detailing encounters with it have been recovered, allowing for more in-depth documentation of the entity.
Although the Serpent is entirely amorphous, data recovered from a Class-III “Oracle” Device has shown it usually takes the form of a star-sized animal similar to organisms of the class Reptilia, being made of the same pitch black fire-like substance that Smilers are composed of and bearing a set of luminous eyes and teeth.
As a spectral and selectively corporeal entity, the Serpent is unable to be harmed or impeded through any physical means. Although fire and other incendiary weapons will be able to damage it as they would any other spectral entity, any injury this causes is entirely negligible due to its immense size.
Strength: Although the Serpent’s physical strength is unknown, its attacks are entirely non-physical, taking the form of occurrences capable of destroying entire levels, dubbed Eigengrau Events. At the beginning of an Eigengrau Event, the skybox of the level (if applicable) will turn entirely pitch black, with any electricity or external light source within the level failing as well. Immediately afterwards, a massive swarm of Smilers and Anethikas will begin appearing within the level, killing any person or entity unlucky enough to cross their path. WIthin an hour, the structural integrity of the level will begin to fail, with the entirety of the level breaking apart and falling into the Void.
Approximately ~35 hours after an Eigengrau Event, the level will reappear in mint condition, with no clues that the event had occurred there before.
Durability: As mentioned before, the Serpent is unable to be harmed by any physical means, due to it being a spectral entity. Additionally, due to its size, the ability to inflict any significant harm on it lies far beyond the capability of any conventional weapon.
Speed: Irrelevant. Due to the entity transcending the concept of space, the Serpent is capable of traveling any distance and to any position instantaneously.
Intelligence: According to myth, the Serpent possesses a limited form of omniscience. Although it is capable of viewing anywhere it wishes to, this process is not automatic, and the entity can only view a finite amount of information at once. As for conventional intelligence, the Serpent’s intelligence is rumored to far exceed that of humanity, although these claims are largely unconfirmed.
In various mythological sources derailing direct encounters with it, the Serpent has been said to be extremely sadiatic, similar in attitude to Smilers. In addition, many of said source depict the Serpent as female, being the proverbial "mother" of Smilers.
Further research is needed on this aspect of the entity.
How do you kill a serpent?
You kill what it stands for.
After all, the fact that it is called the "Serpent" isn't exactly a coincidence. From what we can tell, the Serpent is a sentient ontokinetic theological construct. In layman's terms, a god which was created and sustains itself using belief.
In the Serpent's case, it's sustained by humanity's belief in a "devil". This doesn't mean it is the literal biblical devil, more that it's the idea of one given physical form.
But to kill what a "devil" stands for, we first have to know what a devil is, and what is it that we fear in it.
What do we fear in a devil?
The devil deals in the horrors of our world.
The devil is a traitor. The devil is the serpent that led humanity to the forbidden fruit, and the devil is the woman that gave it to the man.
The devil is a murderer.
The devil is the first man to spill blood. It is the fire of a thousand suns detonated on our earth. It is the man that raises up his gun to kill another.
The devil is darkness.
The devil is what happens when light is out of reach, when all the walls of reason we build to protect ourselves break down in the dark. The devil is what we see when our eyes fail us.
We fear the devil because the devil is what we fear in ourselves.
