The Starship is a designation given to a level that seems to resemble the interior of some sort of space vessel.

Description

The first thing one notices upon entering The Starship is that there is no gravity within it. The level is composed of of corridors arranged in 3 dimensional space. The corridors seem to be designed so that it is always possible to touch the walls, seemingly to prevent people from becoming trapped in a floating position. The words "United Earth Authority" are printed in various places in the ship, often displayed with a symbol that is identical to the symbol of the UBA. Computer terminals are common in the level, but they require a password to operate. This password is currently unknown. There are rooms containing dehydrated food, water, and exercise equipment. All of these rooms are tiny and most of them are structured in a way that makes full use of the zero-g environment. The lack of a sense of up or down in this level can be extremely dizzying.

While some areas of the level seem to be similar in appearance to modern day space stations such as the ISS, others are vastly different and seem to possess technology far surpassing the 21st century. One such example is a large series of tubes that are used to navigate the level. These tubes are very tight, being too small to fit those of above average weight. When one enters the tubes, one will become suspended in the center of the tube and then pushed through it at a high speed by an unseen force. As one flies through the tubes, one will often find places where the tubes branch off of each other. These branches are often labeled with unknown symbols. A person within the tubes has the ability to control which branch they go down, how this functions is unknown.

Entities

For most of the period after the level’s discovery, it was believed to be entirely empty. This would later be proven wrong with the discovery of what has been described as "pods". These pods are cylindrical devices that contain humans inside of them. The humans appear to be in some form of suspended animation. Attempts at awakening them were unsuccessful until the occurrence of Event-Starship-Omega

Entrances and Exits

The level appears to be fused to other levels in random locations, including Level 0. One can simply walk from one of these levels directly into The Starship, and one can similarly walk out. There is an invisible “threshold” between the levels. On the side of The Starship, there is zero gravity. On the side of the connecting level, there is gravity. If one is in a position so that part of their body is past the threshold and part of it is not, only the part of their body past the threshold will be effected by the zero-g effect.

Event-Starship-Omega

During Event-Starship-Omega, a team of MEG operatives attempted to hack into the computer systems using a control panel located in a pod room. Their attempts lead to a series of unexpected developments. Pertinent aspects of the team’s logs have been displayed below for your viewing.

[the team is composed of five members, Cassandra (team leader and backrooms navigation expert), Lily (tech specialist), Alex (tech and weapons specialist), Jonah (medic and psy expert), and Coulter (weapons specialist)]

[The team are in within a rectangular room with 6 pods on each long wall adding up to a total of 12 pods. One of the shorter walls has a large computer screen mounted on it with a control console below. The remaining short wall contains a hallway leading out. Lily and Alex are examining the console.]

Cassandra: How's it going with the computer

Alex: Well, it's just as we suspected, the OS for this system appears to be identical to UBAOS, except that it's called UEAOS.

Coulter: How the hell is that even possible?

Lily: It could be that the UBA stole their OS from here.

Jonah: And maybe the UBA also stole their name from here? And their symbol? No, something weird is going on here.

Cassandra: Can you hack it?

Alex: Honestly, as someone with experience with UBA systems, this really isn't that secure. The other terminals seemed to be locked down by password, but this one goes straight into command mode without any need to log in first. I'm able to use basic commands to get info from the system.

Cassandra. You still haven't answered my question.

Lily: It's using UBAOS γ.16. That's the version that's effected by the redroom exploit. Remember the hack on the UBA compound at the hotel? That was redroom.

Alex: Actually, it's "UEAOS".

Lily: Whatever.

Alex: System successfully breached, yay. Now let's see what I can access. Security cameras. Heating and cooling systems. Automated food production. There's a bunch of labels here, what should I look at first?

Cassandra: Try to get a map of this place. I want to know how big it actually is.

[an automated voice is heard]

Automated voice: Unauthorized access to central console. Do not panic. Full crew wakeup will now commence. Complete ship lockdown commencing.

Coulter: What the fuck did you do!

Alex: I didn't do anything! But it's locked me out of the system!

[a sliding door shuts on the entrance way to the room, trapping the team inside]

Coulter: Fucking liar! You screwed up just like you did at the compound! Now we're gonna die!

Cassandra: Shut the fuck up Coulter!

[a hissing sound is heard from the pods]

Cassandra: Shut the fuck up both of you! As far we can tell, the crew aren't armed, we are. Remember that we're in zero-g and can move 3D. Orient yourselves so that the pods are above us. Jonah, tell the crew that we work for the UBA or something. You're better at that sort of this thing.

Jonah: I believe you mean UEA.

Cassandra: Whatever.

[the team orients themselves as directed by Cassandra]

Cassandra: Now Alex, just because I can't tolerate Coulter's juvenile breakdown doesn't mean his question is unwarranted. What the fuck did you do.

Alex: I didn't do a fuc-

Lily: He opened the map just as you instructed him.

Alex: Don't fucking inter-

Jonah: Let her speak, Alex.

Cassandra: Appreciated Jonah.

Lily: Accessing the maps system automatically started up a new program called UEA Controller. That program was responsible for locking us out.

[The pods open and the ship's crew begin stepping out]

Crew member 12: Who the hell are you, and why are you on our ship?

Jonah: Sorry, we were having trouble operating your systems. Trust us, we don't mean any harm.

Crew member 12: Wait, are you operatives?

Jonah: We were sent by operatives to check on the status of your mission. Apparently something went wrong and the operatives couldn't come themselves.

Crew member 12: Oh? I apologize for the accusatory tone. It's clear to me now that only those under the supervision of the operatives could be here. I'm 12. I'm also the captain. You can find information on the other crew members in their files.

Jonah: 12?

Crew member 12: I'm usually called captain around here. We were personally selected by the leader for this mission. The hope was to establish a colony in Alpha Centauri. We've already colonized most of the solar system, about time we went to the stars.

Jonah: How far are we from earth?

Crew member 12: let me log into the computer over there.

Cassandra: Let him do it.

Crew member 12: [stares at the rest of crew] These people are from high command. Respect them.

[the crew stares blankly at the team. None of them speak. Crew member 12 pushes himself to the console and enters a password, logging himself in]

Crew member 12: I gotta wonder, where is it that you were in stasis, and why don't you have passwords.

Jonah: That information is classified.

Crew member 12: It's just I've never seen uniforms like those before. They don't look much like UEA.

Jonah: Trust us, we're UEA.

Crew member 12: You seem trustworthy, but the rest of your team seems... tense.

Jonah: I am an officer of the UEA. Stop this questioning immediately.

Crew member 12: No you're fucking not. You're one of those goddamn rebels. You stowed away on my ship, and now somehow you've gotten yourself into the console. Well listen to me here. I would rather die then betray the UEA. You think you're in charge cuz you got guns? This ship responds only to the commands of it's crew. And it's a smart system, smart enough to know when we're being held hostage. Ya see, this ship's computer system is a living thing, and if you kill us, it'll never let you escape. And now that you've unintentionally activated it, it'll make sure you can't enter into whatever suspension chamber you were previously using.

Cassandra: We still have the guns. And guess what, we're willing to die too.

Crew member 12: Ah. I knew that smooth talking man over there wasn't really in charge. You asked how far we were from earth? We're light years away. You can't survive without us. Now, I think we can come to an arrangement. There are extra pods, we can give you a chance to survive, to make it to alpha centauri, but for the ship to accept you, you'll have to go through conditioning. Not my rule, if you haven't been conditioned, the pods'll reject your body.

Cassandra: If you don't let us out of this room, we'll kill all of you.

Crew member 12: I don't have much choice now do I? Remember to consider my offer. We're light years from earth and we don't have enough food to last a lifetime. The only way you're living is if you get into our pods.

Cassandra: Why would you trust us?

Crew member 12: [laughs] Don't you know how conditioning works? It doesn't matter how strong you think you are, or much much you think you hate the United Earth Authority. It can turn the most arrogant rebel into a fine worker in the eternal system of the UEA. But anyway, here ya go. Open door!

[the door opens]

[the crew and team exit the room]

Cassandra: Give us time to think this over.

[the team convenes in private]

Cassandra: Jonah, you have basic psy abilities. What was your impression of those people

Jonah: Their minds were... wrong. I've seen this in certain UBA soldiers before. We've long suspected that the UBA used some method of brainwashing. I suppose the UEA does that too.

Lily: Speaking of which, what the hell was going on with them? They seemed to think that they had come from some weird version of earth.

Alex: If only that guy could've let us look at the systems. We could've figured out what this place actually was.

Coulter: Alex, we know better then anyone what the UBA is capable of. This could be some psychological experiment that they're doing.

Cassandra: Could the UBA actually create an entire level? I know that there have been rumors of it, but damn.

Jonah: Nothing about the backrooms makes any sense whatsoever. But I think I know what we need to do next. We need to test the limits of this fantasy. Take one of these crew members and show them the exit. It'll completely destroy the illusion.

Cassandra: Good idea.

Jonah: I just need to have word with Coulter for a bit.

Cassandra: Approved.

[Jonah and Coulter go to a corner]

Coulter: What the fuck is this about.

Jonah: You know what this is about, Coulter. I know why you hate Alex.

Coulter: Of course you do! Everyone does! Me and my soldiers were supposed to protect Alex while he did his fucking hacks on that fucking compound on level 5! While we were all dying, he was sitting there on a computer screen!

Jonah: That was his job. He did the hacking, and you defended him while it happened.

Coulter: But he was so fucking calm about it! I ran in there, covered in blood. My best friend had just been blown up. UBA Operatives had shown up and they were killing us like flies. And Alex who was just sitting there on his computer, looked at me, and calmly told me not to get any blood on him. My best friend was dead and he didn't want to get blood on him!

Jonah: It was a stressful situation for all involved. The way that Alex handles stress is that he enters into an unusual sense of calm. It allows him to think clearly and do complicated tasks in extreme situations. It's why he's so valuable.

Coulter: He can't exactly keep his calm around me!

Jonah: I know what happened. You got angry at Alex in the middle of the operation and told him to fuck himself. The only thing that gets Alex riled is when his teammates aren't as calm as him. That's his flaw, and I've been working on that. Trust me, I have low level psychic abilities, I'm a good judge of character and an even better therapist.

Coulter: You're supposed to be a medic.

Jonah: A good body is useless without a good mind. Anyway, let's get back to the group.

[Jonah and Coulter rejoin the group]

Cassandra: [approaches crew member 4] Greetings.

Crew member 4: I have not been given permission to speak to you.

Cassandra: We need to show you something.

Crew member 4: You can talk to the captain about that.

Cassandra: Tell the captain to gather the crew.

[Crew member 4 gets the captain, the captain gathers his crew together]

Crew member 12: What is this about?

Cassandra: We have something to show you captain.

Crew member 12: Where?

Cassandra: Follow me.

[the crew follows the team to an exit to level 0]

Cassandra: Where does this lead?

Crew member 12: That leads down into the airlock.

Cassandra: It's not an airlock, it an exit to the backrooms. Can you not see the yellow walls?

Crew member 12: I don't know what you're talking about. Their is an airlock right there, can't you see it?

Cassandra: Lily, go through the exit.

Crew member 12: What the fuck are you doing?

[Iily floats through the exit and falls on the ground upon entering Level 0]

Lily: Nice to be back in gravity

Cassandra: What did you just see?

Crew member 12: I didn't see anything.

Cassandra: What happened to Lily then?

Crew member 12: Who's Lily?

Cassandra: Our fifth team member.

Crew member 12: But there's only four of you!

Lily: I'm right here!

[none of the crew members notice Lily.

Cassandra: Lily, come back into the level.

[lily passes the threshold and enters back into zero g]

Cassandra: See, we do have five members.

Crew member 12: Of course you do! You always have.

Cassandra: Let's be done with this. One of you crew members, come here now.

[the crew remains silent]

Cassandra: I need one of you now!

Crew member 12: She's fucking crazy, but do as she asks. You, 1. You were named with a lucky number. Go with her.

[Crew member 1 pushes himself to the threshold]

Cassandra: Enter into the airlock.

Crew member 1: Um, there's a door right there.

Cassandra: Coulter push him through.

[Coulter pushes Crew member 1 though the threshold]

Cassandra: See? You can ent-

Coulter: Oh God Oh Fuck What The Goddamn Hell!

[Crew member 1 appears to be floating in the air and screaming. His face and hair disappear and his entire body seems to change into a substance similar to plastic. He fall back to the floor motionless.]

[The expressions of the member of the crew all go blank. Then a siren is heard, the lights of The Starship turn red, and an automated voice is heard]

Automated voice: Unexpected anomaly. System failure. Deploying operative to debug.

[A UBA Operative no-clips through a wall in The Starship. Despite being in a zero-g environment, it walks as though in full gravity]

Cassandra: Everyone retreat!

[the operative gets a hold of Alex]

Alex: Oh God it's got me!

Coulter: Serves you fucking right.

[Coulter lauches himself from the wall and hits the operative.]

Coulter: Get away!

[the operative rips through Coulter's body. Alex, Cassandra, and Jonah are able to get out. The crew members start running away. A sliding metal door closes over the threshold]

Lily: Oh God.

Alex: He didn't even fucking like me.

Cassandra: The threshold appears to be closed, but after what just happened, I don't want anyone going near it.

Alex: I would've died, and he didn't even like me me, and...

Jonah: [places his hand on Alex's arm] We'll have time to mourn later, now we need to survive.

END OF LOG

With the exception of Coulter, the entire team survived. The entity that had formerly been Crew member 1 was never recovered due to the team's quick retreat. It is theorized to be some form of faceling.

After the occurrence of Event-Starship-Omega, Armed UBA guards were sent to all known entrances to The Starship. These guards were not Operatives but were ordinary human soldiers. Due to this, there have still occasionally been cases of wanderers breaking into The Starship. Also, a few new entrances to this level have been found that were unguarded. An expedition into one of these entrances was able to find their way to a pod room. Notably, one of the pods contained an entity with the exact appearance of Coulter.
