Description

A sketch of an average toxin spitter, detailing its body parts and abilities.

Toxin Spitters are hostile humanoid entities known for spitting dangerous toxins, known as Spitter Substance. They are short and have a bone structure distantly similar to a hound. The entity is not known to be very intelligent, having a memory which lasts only a few days. It is moderately fast, having an average top speed of 16 km/h. Although it cannot hold this speed for very long, it is enough to catch up to any victims it sees.

Their main habitats are in dark or dimly lit places. These entities can be found in almost every level with a human presence but are rare in heavily populated or highly dangerous levels. The entities are routinely hunted for its saliva, which many use to break down walls or to use as a weapon.

Biology

The Toxin Spitter is a humanoid entity capable of both bipedal and quadrupedal movement. They possess frog-like acid sacs under their mouths that produces and stores their infamous acidic saliva. The entities' saliva, known as Spitter Substance, is considered one of the most acidic substances known to man and has been described as being more acidic than fluoroantimonic acid. The Toxin Spitter's saliva has a distinct greenish glow to it, a viscosity similar to that of oil and an odor close to bleach. Almond water is known to undo the affects of spitter substance if applied hastily after contact. It can discharge its spit at 1,200 ft/s (370 m/s), leaving not much time to run away. Almond water is known to undo the affects of spitter substance if applied hastily after contact.

Its internal biology is rather ill-fated with many of its organs consistently having Spitter Substance occupying them. This proves detrimental to their performance, as vital parts such as the heart and lungs filling up with spitter substance as the entity ages may eventually kill it. This, however, can be prevented if the spitter regularly releases its saliva every once in a while, even if not hunting. This explains why wanderers may find holes filled with green liquid in a few levels.

Toxin Spitters boast powerful eyes which allow them to see in the dark, making hunting down wanderers quite easy. Their large hands allow them to pursue around ledges and heights as they have a strong gripping strength. Their mouths are often described as a long tubular structure akin to a leech's body. Lining the inside are elongated thin spiralling grooves acting as rifling. Small teeth dot around the front, which they use for feeding. Every liquid inside the Toxin Spitter is considered highly acidic, including its blood.

Behaviors

Toxin Spitters typically travel alone and have two main attacks: spitting acid and biting. The Spitters will instinctively kill any entity it comes across and will typically aim for the chest rather than the head or other limbs as those have a higher chance of missing. The entity cannot be tamed.

These entities are bipedal when idle and quadrupedal whilst actively hunting. The entity will emit a low-pitched buzz noise, similar to one which would come out of a war horn when it spots a wanderer. Do not burst the entity's acid sac, doing so will burst it and leave you with an extremely dangerous acid on your body.

Spitter Rash

Spitter Rash is a condition caused by contact with Spitter Substance. When an alive human is hit with Spitter Substance and survives, there is a small chance of contracting the illness days after the encounter. Spitter Rash does not effect the whole body, only the place where the entity's saliva was present. Symptoms include boils containing a weaker version of Spitter Substance, rashes and holes appearing. Spitter rash is not fatal in most cases but leaves large scarring on the body. It cannot be cured by almond water and the best way to take care of it is by not straining the area affected.

Do's and Don'ts

Do:

  • Have some sort of body armor made out of strong metals to possibly negate the effect of the acid.
  • Stay at a distance and use a ranged weapon if engaging one..
  • Scare or intimidate them, flames work best.
  • Pour almond water on any acid burns.
  • Sever its mouth to limit the entity's range.
  • Blind it by piercing its eyes.

Don't:

  • Try to burst the entity's acid sac. It will leave you with an extremely dangerous acid on your body.
  • Fight them unarmored.
  • Run away, you have a better chance at survival if you face it head on and fight.
  • Eat them, your final meal will be very unpleasant.
