Level 742 is the 743st level of the Backrooms.

Description

Level 742 consists of an endless ocean that happens in a dream with cloudy weather and calm waters. In the middle of this ocean, you will find medium-sized pieces of rocks that seem to fit up to three or four people. Anyone on this level will find themselves in a wooden canoe, and the space in the canoe is only for one person, however, the canoe will not have paddles installed to be navigated, so the canoe goes in any direction.

On the rocks, people will be able to see events that occurred in the past, present, or future and do not necessarily have to be related to the person. After five or seven seconds, the event shown will no longer be seen, and can only be seen once in the level. People entering the level will be alone, and no other wanderer can be found.

The only entity at this level is Conscious Mind, an entity without physical appearance that will communicate to the person telepathically. This entity will be against any thought of the subject, but if the subject has the same thought as the entity, the entity will try to keep the person's thought as it is. If the subject does not listen to the entity, the entity will start talking about things related to the level or history of the Backrooms.

The person who is present in the level can escape by waking up, although since the dream is lucid, the person can do different actions to wake up that will be shown later. Any person who wakes up from this dream will remember it in every detail forever. However, the dream has a very low probability of occurring, it is approximated that there are only 38 people who have entered the level, and it is unknown if there are more. This dream can occur on any level of The Backrooms.

Colonies and Outposts

Due to the nature of this level, colonies and outposts are unable to be established.

"The next interview is about Level 742 with one of the first people to encounter the level while sleeping. Some parts were modified and removed for security and privacy, thank you for your understanding."

- M.E.G Local Security & Privacy Department

The wanderer enters a room where the interviewer is, presumably this occurs in one of the M.E.G. bases. The wanderer takes a seat and the interviewer starts taking notes of something on a notepad.

<Commence>

Wanderer: Good morning, I have not been delayed, right?

Interviewer: Good morning as well, and no, it has not been delayed, fortunately.

Wanderer: Thank you. Now, it will sound strange but I had a weird lucid dream. I think someone else had it if I'm not mistaken, right? I don't know if it's believable, but I assure you it's true.

Interviewer: Ah, yes, that person who also had it. Other levels occur within dreams, so don't worry about it.

Wanderer: Oh, I didn't know that. I guess I need to check the database next. Well, should I start with the level description?

Interviewer: However you want to start.

Wanderer: Oh, well. The level is an infinite ocean, and you're in a canoe. It might seem like a weird dream at first but every time you think something this voice's against your thoughts or trying to get your hopes down. In the level you can also see historical events that happened inside the Backrooms, there I saw on a rock how a Lightlurker killed an entity while a Smiler watched from a distance.

Interviewer: Well, I think it matches the above description. Now, how did you see that Lightlurker? In the form of hallucination, level change, how?

Wanderer: Well, I saw that thing showing on a rock for a few seconds, and then it disappeared.

Interviewer: Well, can you detail the sky of the level?

Wanderer: Well, there were a lot of clouds covering the sky. Uh, it was cloudy.

Interviewer: Ok. And how did you manage to escape from the level?

Wanderer: I was there for a while, I can't say how long, but it was quite a while before I woke up.

Interviewer: Very good. That's it, isn't it?

Wanderer: Yes, that's all.

Interviewer: Alright. So far your testimony and that of the other two people have been the same, it means that this level could be real and not just a common dream. Thank you very much for your contribution, sir.

Wanderer: You're welcome.
