Disconzi's hypothesis says that a Big Rip can occur when dark energy will become stronger than gravity, reaching a point when it can rip apart single atoms. The professor's model shows that as its expansion becomes infinite, the viscosity of the universe will be responsible for its destruction. However, phantom energy violates the dominant energy condition (basically, it allows mass-energy to flow faster than light) which is a strong reason to believe that phantom energy does not exist. Which is why the big rip scenario is indeed unlikely. Cosmic Catastrophe: No “Big Rip” For at Least Another 2.8 Billion Years. According to Einstein's general relativity, it is impossible to tear the fabric of space. ... Black holes are another example of space stretched to its limit, and there is a strong experimental basis for believing that black holes exist. String theorists believe that the fabric of space can tear in specific ways. If the Big Rip is real, then not only is the Universe expanding (which happens irrespective of dark energy), and not only will distant objects appear to accelerate away from us at increasingly faster and faster rates as time goes on (which happens because of dark energy), but objects which are bound together through

The Big Rip
The Photo what is the Big Rip
In physical cosmology, the Big Rip is a Hypothesis hypothetical Physical cosmology cosmological model concerning the ultimate fate of the universe, in which the matter of the universe, from stars and galaxies to atoms and subatomic particles, and even spacetime itself, is progressively torn apart by the expansion of the universe at a certain time in the future, until distances between particles will become infinite. According to the standard model of cosmology the Scale factor (cosmology) scale factor of the universe is Accelerating expansion of the universe accelerating and, in the future era of cosmological constant dominance, will increase exponentially. However, this expansion is similar for every moment of time (hence the exponential law – the expansion of a local volume is the same number of times over the same time interval), and is characterized by an unchanging, small Hubble constant, effectively ignored by any bound material structures. By contrast, in the Big Rip scenario the Hubble constant increases to infinity in a finite time.
