Entering Level 83.212 reveals the Backrooms version of the Yellow Brick Road. On both sides of the road, fields of yellow roses stretch for as far as the eye can see, softly moving from the wind. Wanderers can see other things from the road, but can’t make out what they are. These turn out to be areas in the Venturing Through The Roses section. The road ends at a gazebo with a box inside. Going inside of the gazebo and opening the box reveals friendship bracelets. Exactly one of the bracelets are the wanderer’s, while the others are from those who came to the level previously. If a wanderer never had a friendship bracelet, one will be made for them with their full name inscribed with beads. The band of this bracelet will always be yellow.
Touching the yellow roses in any way will trigger hallucinations. The hallucinations will be one of five possibilities, with the criteria listed. If the wanderer fits in more than one hallucination criteria, they will randomly get one out of them.
The first hallucination will be of the wanderers’ imaginary friend throughout childhood. If they still think about their imaginary friend frequently, their imaginary friend will act normal. If they haven’t thought of their imaginary friend frequently for a long time, they will cry about the wanderer forgetting them.
The second hallucination occurs only when the wanderer did not have an imaginary friend. It is the same thing as the first but with an old good friend they have not talked to for a while instead.
The third hallucination is of the wanderers’ current friend they care about the most leaving them in a psychologically damaging way.
The fourth hallucination occurs only if the wanderer never had any significant positive connection ever, not including imaginary. It is of their childhood tormentor bullying them for never having any friends.
The last hallucination is reserved for if the wanderer have never had any meaningful connections in their life. This includes positive, negative, and imaginary. It is of their childhood self crying about being lonely.
The hallucination will follow the wanderer around the rest of the time they are in the level, even if they leave the yellow roses. A wanderer can counteract this by leaving and coming straight back to the level.
Venturing Through The Roses
A wanderer can find many things by venturing through the yellow roses. This is only recommended if a good hallucination was gotten.
There is a small circular yellow brick platform with the best friend the wanderer ever had standing upon it. The friend is holding a yellow rose. The wanderer can talk to this friend. However, touching the friend will cause them to fade away into nothing, leaving just the yellow rose on the platform. Touching this yellow rose causes two possibilities of auditory hallucinations.
If the wanderer and the friend were still friends before entering The Backrooms, the friend will cry about the wanderer’s disappearance.
If the wanderer and the friend stopped being friends before entering The Backrooms, memories, either good or bad, of the friend’s interactions with you will start.
There is an underground mine inside of a cave with lapis lazuli on top and topaz at the bottom. The mine looks similar to the level above ground, except there is no wind. Touching the lapis lazuli reveals how much truth the wanderer speaks and how appropriate the truth was. Touching the topaz reveals how loyal the wanderer is to their companions. Not passing either gemstones’ tests teleports the wanderer out of the mine, not being able to reenter. Reentering causes the mine to teleport the wanderer out again. Passing the test, there are things in the mine that aren’t as apparent on first sight.
There are drawings embedded into the wall of various friendship symbols. Touching the drawings will cause the mine to start having wind itself.
There is a gated garden of chrysanthemums in the shape of an outline of two interlocking hearts. In the middle of the hearts are more yellow brick. Going through the gate and sitting in the garden makes wanderers feel joyful and relaxed.
Colonies and Outposts
The yellow roses can be killed by using Rose Water. Spraying Rose Water on the roses regularly will eventually make the soil too acidic for healthy growth. Killing the yellow roses cancels the hallucinatory effect, making colonies possible. If a wanderer were to make a colony, they must make sure that the yellow roses can not regrow back into the base.
The Yellow Rose Group
The Yellow Rose Group is an outpost composed of 15 scientists studying the yellow roses. Their studies are very helpful in providing this level’s database with information. If a wanderer touched the roses and experienced hallucinations, they will hand you a survey asking what they saw and to fill out a checklist of hallucinations they could’ve had. If they say that they do not want to do the survey, they will accept the wanderer’s answer and not pester them any further.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
Walk through Level 83. The flowers will gradually turn yellow and a yellow brick road will appear. The hallucinatory effects do not work until the road is present.
Exits
Walk on the yellow brick road in the other direction to get back to Level 83.
Find and touch a glowing crystal in the mine to exit to Level 1109. This exit is only feasible if the wanderer has gone to Cluster II via Level 999.
