The Rayne Wanderer
Contents
The Rayne Wanderer is a person known to Wander about the Backrooms, researching and documenting various Levels and well as the Entities which inhabit them. Rayne believes that they noclipped into the Bookrooms sometime in February of 2019, though the exact date is unknown.
Description
The Rayne Wanderer has been described as a 5'5 human wanderer, dressed entirely in black clothing, with a black ski mask, raincoat, and a hood which always obscures their face. The Rayne Wanderer rarely speaks, instead choosing to write instead of making vocalizations in order avoid attracting entities. Rayne has however been known to speak in a hushed whisper on occasion, particularly in Levels considered safe and devoid of entities.
The Rayne Wanderer rarely stays within Colonies or Outposts for very long, instead choosing to live nomadically all throughout the Backrooms. According to Rayne, this is because they believe Entities migrate throughout the Backrooms in Waxing and Waning patterns, cyclically flooding certain Clusters and settling there for a while before moving on. At any given time, it is likely that Rayne will be in possession of:
- A box of matches
- A dark blue sleeping bag
- A 2 Liter keg containing Almond Water
- A 1 Liter Keg of Memory Fluid
- A notebook titled "Entity Encounters: Do's and Don'ts"
- A notebook titled "Maps of the Backrooms"
- A small bag containing basic medical supplies
- A small bag containing writing utensils
- A black 12-inch blade machete
- A photograph of Level 727
Philosophy
"Am I Absolutely sure that I cannot be Absolutely sure about anything?
Absolutely Not.''"
― The Rayne Wanderer
Cosmicism
Rayne adheres to the philosophy of cosmicism, which states that there is no recognizable divine presence, such as God, in the universe, and that humans are particularly insignificant in the larger scheme of intergalactic existence, and perhaps are just a small species projecting their own mental idolatries onto the vast cosmos, ever susceptible to being wiped from existence at any moment.
The Limina Effect
"The way I envision it, there are probably multiple dimensions which exist as clusters. All the dimensions where earth exists are one cluster. The Backrooms is its own cluster too, but it's the cluster of dimensions for things which no longer exist, which never existed, which are discarded and, in a way, deleted. I think this dimensional cluster of Unbeing has only recently begun colliding with our own, and we are slowly merging with it. The Wanderers who get noclipped into the Backrooms are only the beginning. No one knows when, but in time, perhaps all of reality will be noclipped into the Backrooms and be warped to merge with the rest of this infinite expanse. I think that everything in the Backrooms might have once been from real places, but they end up here for a reason. They were simply not meant to be..." ― The Rayne Wanderer
Partygoers
The Rayne Wanderer holds either a deep hatred or overwhelming fear of Partygoers, as well as Level Fun. Rayne will refuse to speak on the subject, and as soon as a Partygoer or a door to Level Fun is spotted, will make a run for it in an attempt to escape the level entirely.
Meditative Noclipping
The Rayne Wanderer has been known to practice a form of Noclipping known as "Meditative Noclipping". This is achieved by sitting still with your eyes closed and focusing the mind on nothingness for a prolonged period of time. Ones mind must not be too eager and impatient, nor inattentive and unfocused. If the practitioner manages to meditate diligently on the concept of nothingness for at least 5 minutes, they may experience a Noclipping event.
During this event, you will feel like you are falling through a void as long as your eyes remain closed. Once you open your eyes, you will be in another random location within the Backrooms. The Rayne Wanderer has been known to use their sense of sound to determine when to emerge from a Meditative Noclipping Event, and has used this technique multiple times to escape from levels that have become infested by hostile entities.
