This guide is meant to aid anyone in writing a POI (Person of Interest) page. It refers to topics that are necessary in the creation of such a page, such as proper documentation of life; a POI page should not be created. unless of the utmost importance, if it lacks in general information.
Power Limitation
Unless otherwise done correctly, most POIs need a limit to the amount of power they can possess. For instance, although very powerful, The Storyteller and The Historian balance one another out due to their opposite natures; this, however, is simply an example, and this should by no means be overdone as a limit to a POI's power. Some vague ideas that may aid in limiting the power of an overpowered POI include:
- A limiting object; for instance, a POI may not be able to harness the full realm of their power because of an object blocking them from doing so.
- Mental conflict; is the POI limiting themselves from achieving what they want?
- Powerful, but surrounded by those of equal or greater power; is the POI powerful to most, but not to those around them?
There are more concepts that can be used for power limitation; original ideas are highly encouraged, so as to not ruin the originality of a POI.
Proper Documentation
Unless a POI is extremely important to the Backrooms and the lore surrounding it, if there is hardly any information surrounding it, it should likely not be created as a page. This would only clutter up the Wiki with an unnecessary page; nevertheless, if you do desire to make the POI into a page, you may add onto your own lore, benefitting both you and the Wiki in the end.
Concept
Is your POI's concept original and beneficial? If not, revise it; if this fails, do not make the POI in the first place. A good POI will have genuine conflict, documentation, and power limitation; one that is lacking in such qualities would likely be deleted, as it could easily break the lore of the Backrooms and the many canons that are on the Wiki.
Entity / POI?
Is your page a POI, an Entity, or perhaps neither? There is a thin line between these two types of pages that some may not quite understand; an entity is usually a species that refers to a multitude of the same organism. Even if the Entity page states that the population of such an entity is dwindling, and frankly extinct, it still remains an Entity page because it focuses on the biological and behavioral factors of the Entity; a good POI page should focus on the life and personality of the POI.
The mention of "neither" is referring to small groups, such as the Consensus of Impresarios; with the ability to place multiple POIs within it, the state of such a page may be argued.
Formatting
Most POI pages explain the life of the subject and use an Infobox to convey the remainder of the information they need to explain. Unorthodox features, such as logs, are encouraged; they do aid both the immersion, length and possibly, quality, of a page. Nevertheless, insertion of these should be surgical, as the addition may do the very opposite, and break the immersion. Most POI pages will look something like this:
(Placeholder) is the (FLUFF)
Life (Would be a heading on a POI page.)
(INSERT DETAILED RETELLING OF POI'S LIFE)
