History
Although not much is known about the early history of Lunae Zonam, there are a few things that are certain; the Impresario of the nation is currently attempting to gain more information via the use of literature. The municipal governmental system has been in place for, at the very least, 1000 years; this is around the time when the prime deity of Lunae Zonam, Mater Lunae, departed for The Moon. Many believe that the system was established upon Her departure, existing to represent Her wishes. Around 1500, something referred to as "The Lunae Schism" occurred; a civil war nearly broke out due to a false prophet stating that Mater Lunae would return at a date that yielded no results. The mayor at the time, Sylas, ended this with the explanation that Mater Lunae would return on Her own accord, whenever it suited Her best, and that Her judgement was above theirs. After this, a multitude of people looked up to him; literature increased heavily and a form of renaissance occurred. A list of mayors was created, which is now read as follows:
- Henry IV (1456 – 1507)
- Sylas I (1507 – 1566)
- Tabitha III (1566 – 1600)
- August II (1601 – 1610)
- August III (1610 – 1652)
- George II (1652 – 1700)
The list was finalized at George II, due to most mayors now having literature written about them extending beyond simple mentions. The old list, however, is stored safely and is often displayed at speeches or public events celebrating the existence of the nation.
The 18th century was to bring forth a boom in economics, technology, and literature, just as the Sylasian Renaissance had a few centuries prior. This caused initial success for Lunae Zonam, and many began to forget the days of Mater Lunae's blessings. However, this was quickly destroyed; a new mayor had been elected. Tabian, who promised to bring great prosperity, ruled with an iron fist. He attempted to establish a hereditary dictatorship, yet failed, only creating a temporary oligarchy that fell upon his death in 1761. Nevertheless, this stunted the growth of the nation; Mayor Tabian ruled for 61 years, in which almost no advance had occurred. Many began to question the municipal government in favor of a monarchy; nevertheless, the municipal system continued.
This was largely due to the next mayor, Tom; Mayor Tom almost completely made up for Tabian's many failures, causing an age of prosperity to truly fall on Lunae Zonam. During this era, many people truly began moving forwards and past Mater Lunae. Although they still longed for Her return, they understood that She was at her own accord, as Sylas had told the nation several centuries ago. This age continued into the 19th and 20th centuries; although technology did not advance past or even reach that of the rest of the Backrooms, success was present.
The 21st century has yielded two notable mayors; Alexander, the predecessor of the Impresario age. Alexander was a relatively popular mayor who was a great public speaker and a generally kind person; in January 2022, he gave up his position as mayor to Joshua, who, in the next month, became an Impresario. As of now, the municipal system is in question; a vote is to be held to determine whether or not it should stay in place. Either way, Joshua will remain as Impresario L, which may cause confusion amongst the Consensus.
