Description

Level 1's appearance is inconsistent - varying from yellow hallways reminiscent of those found on Level 0 to vast, concrete rooms enshrouded in a strange, low-hanging fog. However, the most common appearance is similar to that of the aforementioned Level 0, being an expansive, maze-like complex of yellow rooms. The ambience within this level consists of buzzing lights similar to Level 0, however some wanderers have reported whispers around the level. Level 1, as previously mentioned, is the first habitable level within The Backrooms. Normally, the only entities in the level are Facelings and the occasional Sixarms, and it also has an infinite supply of water and electricity - making the level habitable. While in Level 1, it is heavily recommended to try and find others and gather supplies - you'll need them for Level 2 and Level 3.

However, in Level 1 the lights can go off in a random area of the level at any moment. This phenomenon has been dubbed the "Blackout Event". During a Blackout Event, entities such as Smilers and Lurkers will start to appear, and said area will become completely silent, other than the sound of footsteps. If you are inside an area undergoing a Blackout Event, the best thing to do is to hide in a room with a door and wait for the lights come back on. A Blackout Event typically lasts anywhere from 10-30 minutes.

Supplies are easy to find within Level 1. The level contains several crates scattered randomly. Within these crates, a random assortment of objects can be found, mostly consisting of a mix of necessary supplies (Almond Water, first aid kits, clothes, weapons, mobile phones, etc) and random everyday objects from The Frontrooms, usually serving little to no purpose. Even though these crates can contain useful items that can help you on your journey through The Backrooms, they should be approached with caution, as some crates may contain outright dangerous items.

Entities

Level 1 has very few entities - Facelings and Sixarms being the most common. During a Blackout Event Smilers and Lurkers will also appear.

Colonies and Outposts

Backrooms Colonists "Base Flickers"

  • A relatively small base.
  • Friendly and open to trade.
  • The population of this base ranges from around 25 to 200, because the amount of people stationed there is inconsistent.
  • The base has public WiFi.

M.E.G Base Alpha

  • The main base of the M.E.G.
  • Take in wanderers.
  • Has a population of upwards of 5,000.
  • Friendly and open to trade.

The Orderly Republic

  • A fairly large outpost with a population of around 200.
  • Friendly and are willing to trade.
  • They have a stash of supplies, some of which they give passing wanderers.

The Inflictors

  • A small group within Level 1 with 15 members.
  • Very hostile if you don't support their cause, which seems to be to try and take down other bases.
  • Never open to trading.
  • They will attack on sight.

Entrances & Exits

Entrances

Level 1 has many entrances, but these are most well-known:

Exits

There are many exits to Level 1, usually taking the form of a door or a stairwell that might even lead you back to Level 0, but where you end up seems to be random. However, there are a few consistent exits, such as:

  • An extended corridor that leads to Level 2.
  • A wooden door marked with a number. The door will lead to the level with the number on the door.

There is also a more complicated exit. Upon entering the level, go to the left. Continue walking until you find a corridor. Go right to the end of the corridor. Then, turn around. There should now be two diverging paths. Follow this movement: Left, Right, Left, Right. After the second right, you will see two doors, marked A and B. Go through the B door. You will be greeted with another set of doors. Take the A door. It will most likely lead to The Hub, but it can lead to other anomalous levels such as Level Frown, The End, or even Level Fun if you are very unlucky.
