Description

Void Cells' protective exterior.

Void Cells are inanimate objects that reside in the Hallowed Gate, they are the common entities the wanderers face. They appear as a floating geometric shape made with marble and gold that floats more than 150cm from the ground but they can fly to reach elevated places, they move instantaneously in short ranges. Their sizes vary but commonly they are as large as 40cm in dimension down to 25cm in their shells while the core is roughly 9cm in diameter.

These are the exterior of the entities that are used to protect their cores from damage, the shells are anomalously durable and regenerate their missing parts quickly that further increasing their survivability, their shells can morph and split into multiple similar-shaped pieces however, it will open their core upon firing. Their cores are assumed to be made of gemstones but it visibly to be shown as starlight from it, despite that were made of gems, it also durable but damaging their core would impair them temporarily. Their durability can take many punishments before it will expose to its core, destroying the core will explode upon destruction.

Their weapons come from their cores that release energy projectiles that disintegrate upon contact but doing so will open their shells exposing their cores.

Void Cells are the most common and numerous yet they are the most dangerous entities in the Entity Database, they guard fiercely within the level and are only manifested in response to "The Blackout Event" phenomenon acting as the first line of defense. They also have variants and each of them possesses functions that specialize in some situations when facing threats.

Manifestations

Though it is unclear where these entities came from, they are always manifest from the first few cycles of the event throughout the level possibly giving a warning to any intruders. Here is a comprehensive stage of Void Cells manifestations below:

1st Cycles Appeared as inanimate marbled objects scattering throughout the level. Increases the amount as the event continues to occur.
2nd Cycles From a few cycles that occurred, the entities became active though inert, the first sign of the 2nd stage of the cycles and manifestation of Void Cells.
3rd Cycles Void Cells are fully active and highly aggressive.


Furthermore, should a threat has proven to be severe, the cycles begin to occur and cause some of these entities to upgrade into advanced iterations, the Constructs. But should they avoid conflict for a long time, these events will occur except it will slowly revert them into an inert state until the last few cycles will eventually make these entities disappear and are safe to travel.

Behavior

Void Cells are simple-minded entities, they only follow two commands-search intruders and exterminate while they move in groups, they will often swarm their enemies effectively killing them swiftly. They are highly aggressive and they will not stop until either they are destroyed or the intruders killed however if they are to avoid them, this would cause them to patrol and search any intruders until the cycles begin to make them inert and eventually they will disappear.

They often move sideways in an unpredictable pattern, repositioning swiftly, but often surround them if they are enough Void Cells to swarm. With their short burst of speed, it will cause the intruders surprised and vulnerable to flanking attacks that make them very dangerous entities to encounter. They will open their shells whenever they are firing exposing their core, exploiting this behavior is useful, but in the end, not ideal when they are in numbers, especially their cores' small size.

However, when these entities are in some particular places or sub-levels with Hallowed Gate they behave differently, some of them were docile and do not provoke when attacked, or in some sub-levels will attack the intruders the moment they enter the sub-levels.

Biology

Void Cells are mechanical for a better term, though it is unsure how these entities function since they were made of very simple and basic components such as the shells that are made with marble and gold, and the core. It is speculated that these shells possibly consist of nanotechnology which enables their shells to morph and self-regeneration while the core housed a sort of artificial intelligence and also acts as a weapon and a central brain for the shell.

Their shells' sizes and shapes can vary from each other but the core will remain as it is aside from the color it emits.

Variants

It is documented that they are much more iterations of these entities, they function differently when facing threats and situations. They come in distinctive appearances, weapons, and functions. This also includes sub-variations in specified shapes that further their variety to each other, here is the list below:

Cube
Sub-Variants
White They are the most common variants. They shoot energy projectiles in burst fire.
Black Black marbled with golden vertexes and edges. Fires multiple energy projectiles at once.
Green Green with golden marbled patterns. Fires non-lethal projectiles that cause the target to slowly wear them down until pacified essentially slowing and weakening the target down.

Sphere
Sub-Variants
White White marbled. They opened their shells horizontally around the core whilst discharging a beam that cleanly cuts anything that contacts in short yet steady bursts.
Black Black with dark grey marbled patterns. They split open vertically as they charge for some time then they discharge a larger beam at longer distances which causes them to retreat to charge up again. Destroying the core while discharging its beam would cause a catastrophic explosion.
Gold Completely golden with 4 white marble pieces along with glowing energy in the middle of the pieces. Fires a beam in 4 directions then it will spin either horizontal or vertical directions.

Rectangle
Sub-Variants
Black Black marbled with metallic gold at each edges and vertexes. It is split in half into 2 cubes which then fire explosive energy projectiles at high velocity. It prefers to maintain a distance away from the fight and the enemies.
Blue White marble with blue and gold for marbled patterns. It will fly above the target which will fire down multiple explosive projectiles and after that retreats to prepare for another attack.
Green Deep green with white and golden marbled patterns. Charges up a larger projectile and when exploded scatters into multiple projectiles that seek other targets.

Octahedron
Sub-Variants
Green Green marble with golden pieces at the tip at the lower and the upper side of the vertexes. It prefers to approach its victims at close range which will then spin itself rapidly whilst releasing triangular blades around it that will cut anything if close enough.
Red White marble with light red marbled patterns. It will charge at intruders while it glows intensely, once they are close enough causes it to explode with energy which causes anyone in its vicinity to burn. It does not harm this entity itself but causes to temporarily disabled their functions.
Black Black marble with golden marbled patterns and with golden metallic pieces in each vertexes. The most aggressive among all variants often will charge at intruders with great speed and after that releases a red spike delivering a lethal blow to its target.

Tetrahedron
Sub-Variants
Black Black marbled. It will project an energy field that protects any entities from harm while they can attack and go through a field. It often stays close with other entities as they are unarmed.
Green Black marble with a dark green marbled pattern. It will approach the intruders causing them to emit energy that spatially slows anyone in its area aside from other entities.
Blue Blue marble with a black marbled pattern and golden vertexes on each side. Causes any entities to maximize their lethality making them more dangerous. It will stay alongside other entities.

Toroid
Sub-Variants
Gold All golden with an exposed core at the center of the ring. It emits this field of energy to any nearby entities to repair/heal at an impossible rate. It often stays along with other entities.
Black Multiple black rings intersect and constantly spin around the core. Causes any entities to be temporarily invulnerable in any form of attack for an amount of time and once its effect is expired causes this entity to disappear.

Paragon Void Cell Variants

These entities are excluded and unique from their normal counterparts, often they are manifested by Paragon entities to aid in their battle. Their shapes are vastly different nonetheless it acts identical to the normal variants albeit with different functions.

Encounter

It is recommended to run away from those entities as they moved in swarms but if they are few and vulnerable a recommended higher caliber rounds to use to tear down their shells until it exposes their cores.

If the timing when the Void Cell opened up for attack one must accurately aim their core and shoot it.

Additional Information

Artifact Retrieval HG/V 13A

An artifact was retrieved from a trader who happened to get out and survived the Hallowed Gate, the trader accidentally stumbled upon it in the Sub-Level C where they witness an artifact placed on a pedestal. The artifact appeared as a mass of small marbled objects of various shapes and designs and thought it will be valuable in the market in their colony as it seems to place something important.

The person who traded in question has reported that these objects manifested these entities as they sink to the ground creating a star-like effect on the affected surface and then later emerges as Void Cells. They do not seem to attack the person but follow them whenever it follows causes an incident in the trade market and public within the colony.

The person who obtained these objects and the trader has been detained and for further questioning by the M.E.G. agents but they created a conflict as the Void Cells will see their owner as a threat causing them to attack the agents and nearby colony guards, fortunately, only a few minor injuries and the entities deactivated as soon as the owner subconsciously yell them to stop. The trader and the person are willing and cooperative enough to confiscate the artifacts and they are released and sent to prison serving 2 days and 4 days of community service.

The artifacts have been given to the research division for further analysis and increased surveillance among traders and wanderers who possess these artifacts. Testing the artifacts and to the extent, the Void Cells, for behavior and potentially can be used for military use is pending.

Research Analysis HG/V 13A-2/11/22

Regarding the early incident, it seems these Void Cells do not seem to be simple-minded machines, they display docile and obedient to those who activated them and display a level of a complex task when giving orders but only to some degree to each of the Void Cells variants. Again, further testing and research are pending.

Addendum HG/V 12-2/14/22

There is a wanderer who claims that she has these similar artifacts given by none other than a Paragon entity, she has currently 4 artifacts and uses them as self-defense when facing hostile entities. The wanderer said that she was being saved by this entity when she and her group of wanderers as they went on a trip and settled in a colony on a neighboring level but were ambushed and attacked by a group of hostile entities cornering the wanderers in an area, fortunately, they were being saved by it killing them in a process. The wanderer who been given these artifacts by a Paragon, the reason is unknown but most likely it did out of good heart then this entity left the group and traveled to the colony safely.

The agents questioned and ask to confiscate these artifacts but she refuse and said she will keep them as a sentimental value as being grateful that she and her group were saved and often she used them when they are in trouble, the agents let the group go with retrieving the artifact without any incident afterward.
