Langsam und schimmernd fiel ein Regen,
Slowly and gleaming fell the shower,

In den die Abendsonne schien;
Through which the evening sun shone;
于黄昏夕阳散发的光辉中
Der Wanderer schritt auf engen Wegen
The traveller walked down narrow paths
旅人踯躅在小路上
Mit düstrer Seele drunter hin.
With a sombre soul.
心情阴沉
Er sah die großen Tropfen blinken
He saw the great drops glint
旅人望见，豆大的雨滴落下，闪烁
Im Fallen durch den goldnen Strahl;
As they fell through the golden ray;
穿梭在金色的光芒之中
Er fühlt' es kühl aufs Haupt ihm sinken
He felt them splash cool on his head,
旅人感到，冰凉的雨滴打在额前
Und sprach mit schauernd süßer Qual:
And spoke quiveringly in sweet torment:
于是带着甘甜的苦涩，颤抖着说
Nun weiß ich, daß ein Regenbogen
‘I know now that a rainbow
‘现在我明白了，那道彩虹
Sich hoch um meine Stirne zieht,
Rises high around my brow,
在我头上高高架起的桥梁
Den auf dem Pfad, den ich gezogen,
And on the path that I had taken
在我走过的这条小路上
Die heitre Ferne spielen sieht.
The distance smiles to see it play.
能在远处微笑着看它嬉戏
Und die mir hier am nächsten stehen,
And those who stand here closest to me
而与我至亲至近的人
Und wer mich scharf zu kennen meint,
And those who reckon to know me best—
而自诩对我所知甚深的人
Sie können selber doch nicht sehen,
Not even they can see
却无法看到
Wie er versöhnend ob mir scheint.
How redeemingly it shines above me.
我得蒙救赎的那道虹
So wird, wenn andre Tage kommen,
So it shall be in days to come
而当另一天到来之际
Die sonnig auf dies Heute sehn,
That will look back sunnily on this today:
回望今日的灿烂之际
Ob meinem fernen, bleichen Namen
Above my distant pale name
在我遥远，褪色的名字之上
Der Ehre Regenbogen stehn.
A rainbow of honour shall stand.’
